Electronic Prescription of the National Health System (RESNS)

The National Health System's interoperable electronic prescription service (RESNS) allows patients to collect electronically prescribed medication from any pharmacy in an Autonomous Community other than the one in which the prescription was issued. Only an individual health card is required.

RESNS Services

The interoperable electronic prescription service includes the following services:

• Cancellation of dispensing: this allows the pharmacist to cancel a dispensing transaction that has already been completed, provided that no more than 24 hours have elapsed.
• Precautionary blocking of dispensing: this allows the pharmacist to block the dispensing of a medicine if they detect any circumstance that may affect the patient's safety.
• Confidentiality in dispensing: this allows patients to request that a prescription be treated as confidential. When the patient goes to the pharmacy, the medicine marked as confidential can only be viewed and dispensed if the confidentiality code is provided.
• Active treatment: this allows the pharmacist to view the patient's complete current treatment and the corresponding dispensing dates, rather than only the medicines that can be dispensed at that time, so that they can provide the patient with appropriate information.

In addition, certain extemporaneously prepared medicines and individualized vaccines are also available in some Autonomous Communities.
